Originally developed by the BBC in the 1950s, the Coles 4104 Lip Microphone remains the undisputed benchmark for sports commentary and broadcast journalism in extreme noise environments. Trusted by professionals at football stadiums, racing circuits, and live news scenes worldwide, it delivers naturally warm, intelligible speech even when ambient noise is deafening. Sound engineers have long nicknamed it a "voice-over booth in your pocket" — and for good reason.

Description
Coles 4104 Lip Microphone — Professional Ribbon Broadcast Mic
The 4104's noise rejection isn't a digital trick — it's precision acoustic engineering:
Lip Positioning Bar — Rests against your upper lip to lock the ribbon capsule at an exact, consistent distance, eliminating level inconsistency between takes or commentary shifts.
Proximity Effect Tuning — The mic is deliberately built with an aggressive low-frequency roll-off. At lip distance, the ribbon's natural proximity effect kicks in and perfectly restores bass warmth to your voice — while distant crowd noise loses its low-end energy and recedes into the background.
Figure-8 Polar Pattern — Bi-directional pickup rejects off-axis sound by over 30 dB, so two commentators can work side-by-side without channel bleed.
Integrated Breath Shields — Heavy-duty stainless steel nose and mouth screens eliminate plosives and breath blasts with no external foam windscreen required.
Transducer Type — Pressure gradient ribbon; corrugated aluminum element protected by fine woven nylon gauze
Polar Pattern — Bi-directional (Figure-8) with >30 dB average side rejection
Frequency Response — 60 Hz – 12,000 Hz
Output Impedance — 300 ohms
Sensitivity — –50 dB (ref. 1V/Pa)
Max SPL / Distortion — Less than 1% THD at 120 dB SPL
Connector — XLR 3-pin (Pin 2 Hot / Positive)
Body — Perforated brass casing with brown PVC-covered ribbed grip handle
